1942

The first name to be recognize in graffiti was a writer by the of Kilroy.What is documented is that Kilroy worked in a war plant during the ww2 And would write his name on the bombs he was making in that plant  (Kilroy was here.)  The name got so big that it started taking on meaning to G.I’s that saw it. The name would be would be written by different G.I’s stationed in other parts of the World.

1964-1970

The Start of Philadelhia writing:

Cornbread and Cool Earl where the first and the biggest of the era.  They originated a Philadelphia tag style described as tall and skinny, one color very large.  Cornbread is credited for using the first crown over his tag  and Cool Earl the first to add arrows to his tag. Cornbread had his name  around so much that the mayor of Philadelphia announced a reward to any individual giving information leading to the arrest of these "outlawz".  Also Cornbread is credited to be  the first to write on a airplane, which happened to be the plane to the Jackson 5.  SUPERKOOL 223 was amongst the very first  to bomb airplanes.

1967-1971

The firsts generation of New York  graffiti writers. Taki183 was the first graffiti writer to receive attention from the media and started a new generation of writers to take on the same persuit for fame. But Taki in no way was the first writer. Writers credited before Taki  where names like  Frank207 , Julio 204 ,  Cay161, Nehi 161, Joe136, Ace137…  in the Bronx Lee163d  and in the Brooklyn Undertaker Ash  and Friendly Freddie.

1970-1972

The first to add designs to his tag was Lee163d also the first to add his name outside a subway car, stayhigh149 is also credited.

1971

The first to use clouds around a tag was done by Superkool 223  , this design was taken from the speech bubble found in comic’s . Baby Face 86 was the first to use a crown over his tag in New york. Cat22333 was the first writer to use the term “ Ism”( witch ment more then one) at the end of his name. Topcat126 moves from Philadelphia to new york and developes  a hand writing style called "Broadway style". Brooklyn starts the first real graffiti crew , Ex:/ vandals.

1972

The first filled in  piece is invented by Super kool 223  also the first to find a "fat cap". but anthor credits go to El Marko174 ,  Baby Face 86 , C-C 10 , For having the first outlined tag piece .The same year the first top to bottom is done by Super kool 223 , Lil Hawk , japan 1, Tracy168, Blade . The first back ground top to bottom is developed by Aj161 and Silvertips

1973

Riff170 the first writer to do two color "pieces", puzzle designs, crack letters and marshmellow letters . Hondo 1 invents the first candy cane letter style. Super kool 223 does first insides polka-dot decorations in his piece. April 1^st  The first use of graffiti art as a performance . Twyla tharp’s ballet “ deuce coupe” uses backdrop  produced by Hugo Martinez (coordinator)  stayhigh149 , Phase2 , Snake1, Stitch1, Mike171 , Coco144, Riff170 , Jec, Sjk171, Ray b 954,  Soda1, Cat87, Rican619, Charmin65,

1973

Henry 161, Bama1,Rich11 each performed in a group of six painting a huge backdrop .

1974-1977

Writing takes its peak thanks to help from style masters like  Phase2, Stan153 , Riff170.Tracy168 , King2 , P.nut2 ,Take5, Pel ,  Blade1, Caine1 . Large whole car productions take place this same years by  3YB , INDS , WAR,  TFP , TC-5,  Later groups like  TF-5 ,  TDS ,TMT, UA , CIA  , Take the art form to a new level . This same year the throw up is introduced by  In –aka-Kill3 . The throw up appears all over the subway system  but mainly on the INDs and BMTs  it consisted of two letters quickly filled in.   more noted  writers are  Mickey -aka-To729 , Hurst –aka- OI , Jester-aka- Dy167, Crazy Dike-aka- Cd , Vinny-aka-Fi2,  Movin2-aka-Ti147 , Dean-aka-Le, Tero-aka-Uc3 , Danger59-aka-Rm, Ike327-aka-Iz , Caz2-aka-Cy, Spear-aka-Ds3. Even Tracy168, Cliff159, Lee and Mono would do throw ups     The Fablous five would  pull off some of the greatest whole cars that same year.

1978-1980

The art form hits a new plateau from broadway writers like Part , Chain3, kool131, Padre2, Adrock, Fed2, Tean , Kade , Would do the best pieces thoses years as well as groups like  TMT , UA , CIA, TSF, TMT , MAFIA. The 6 line would belong to Smilly149 , Skull2, Seen , Pjay, Duster, the 2s and 3s would see work by Dondi , Noc167,  Cos207 ,  Zephyr, Repel, Aeron , Duro.  The 5s would see works done by  Blade & Comet , Boots119 , Mark198 , Fritos , Kit17 . the 4 train would see  a master like Mitch77 and others like Max183 , 2Famouse , Boo2 , Disco92 , Crash , kel 1^st   Ban2 , Kid56 , Duel .  Major presence on the 7 line where  Son1 & Pro , Chino174 , Fuzzone & Flame pic , Sky2.  TOP, CIA , CW , TB, TPA  would keep the Bmt’s going

1981-1982

Fba would take over where Tds left off on the 1line and take style in a new direction. Airborn , spade127 , tack , kaze , rask would leave an impression on writers in the mid to late 80S. while skeme & Dez would have the most cars running that year. Cap & Pjay  would take on a war that would last for years ( Cap vs the world.) inside artists would also find this to be there peak years . writers like DURO, KIST, SES, BT/BADTAXI , FLIN TOP , GWIZ , OE3 , P13 , SOE , PEO , BABY168 , BADBID , would take over the BMT’S, On the 2s and 5s  BOMOO5 , SEEN TC5  , DOZE TC5, SKEME , AGENT , RUSH MPC &  REST.  The 4 line had, BAN2, Duel , Cey , Scop, Pepsi , Arab,  Dil, Sed2 , Rub5

1983-1986

Graffitti was coming to an end on most of the subway train lines. The 7 line was all white and changing red. But there where some hard core writing groups that continued on , RTW & TNB-TAT would keep  keep on painting   . T-kid170, Cem2 , Kenn ,mack , Bio , Shame125  keep the ghost yard theres as well lots of the IRT’s. other writers like Delta2, Sharp , Vulcan , Serve ,  Rize , Sade & Dune , Sash , Flite , Poem , West , Jon1 , Poke. Cope2, Cone.  While RTW would control all the BMTs the most noteable members of this were  , MIN-aka NE, RICH2-aka- RH,  BOE, SAGO , QUIK , SACH, HAZE-aka-SE3  would keep other writers out the coney island yard and the city hall lay ups. Other writers who keep moving forward were  Magoo2,  Demo , Trike , Webone,  Track2-aka-Tekay, Ghost , Strider, Iceman lsd, Sash, Rec 127, Cap, Gato, Neo, Joz, Jon one.

1987-1990

Half of new york city transit was basically clean except for the 5line in the Bronx and the Js & LLs line in Brooklyn .many writers had quit and just very few kept up the fight . groups like the RIS crew , COD , TC5 , AOK,  would produce some of the nicest whole cars of the time, By September 1989 the last train was cleaned . many writers would quit due to the strickter laws and jail time that was given. But few continued the move ment like KET, GHOST , VEN , SAR, VEEFER , MIN1 . As well as old school legends like IZ THE WIZ & FUZZONE . Would start a clean train movement
