1) In what part of the city did you both grow up in and tell us how did you become interested in writing on the streets and Subways?  KIT 17 – I GREW UP IN THE KINGSBRIDGE SECTION OF THE BRONX ON MARION AVE AND 193rd STREET TWO BLOCKS UP FROM THE 3rd AVE EL #8 LINE .I WOULD CUT OUT OF SCHOOL AND HANG OUT ON 194 th  STREET  BAINBRIDGE AVE. THERE WAS A BUS STOP ON THAT CORNER #4 BUS THERE WERE CLYDE TAGS ON THE BACK OF THE BUS I WOULD SEE , AND I WOULD ALSO SEE THE 3rd AVE  EL  RUNNING ON WEBSTER AVE AND SEE THE GRAFF ON THAT LINE AND I WAS HOOKED ON GRAFF AFTER THAT

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

MARK 198  – I ALSO RESIDED IN THE KINGSBRIDGE SECTION OF THE BRONX 194 th AND MARION AVE ALSO 2 BLOCKS OFF THE 3rd AVE EL #8 LINE I USE TO SEE GRAFFITI TAGS RUNNING ON THE  3 rd EL WHICH ALSO INSPIRED ME

2) What were the first names you both saw on the subways and what writers inspired you both on your quest to fame?... Why did you both chose the names you made so famous? MARK 198 - TRACY 168, PHASE 2, CLIFF 159, VINNY, COMET, BLADE, THESE WERE THE WRITERS WHO INSPIRED ME THERE WERE FOUR OTHER MARKS WE WERE HANGING OUT WITH, BUT THEY CALLED ME MARK 198 BECAUSE I LIVED ON 198 STREET

...." EARLY SUBWAY KINGS "

KIT 17 –  I HAVE TO SAY SUPER KOOL , TRACY, CLYDE, P.NUT , AJAX, DR FEEL GOOD ON THE BUSES HE HAD A BEAUTIFUL HAND STYLE. I CHOSE THE NAME KIT BECAUSE IT WAS EASY TO WORK WITH THEN I ADDED MY LUCKY NUMBER 17 BEHIND IT.

3) Who were some of the first writers you both meet when you started out, and what was the writing scene like in your part of the city.

KIT 17 - SOME OF THE FIRST WRITERS I MET WERE HYSEN, COMET, VAMM, P.NUT 2, FUZZ ONE, THERE WERE A FEW OTHERS  I CAN'T REMEMBER. THE WRITING SCENE BACK THEN WAS CRAZY EVERYBODY WAS BOMBING THE SUBWAYS WITH 2TB'S ( TOP TO BOTTOM ) WHOLE CARS PANELS BURNERS JUST A MECCA OF WRITERS, WE WOULD HAVE A HARD TIME FINDING A CLEAN PANEL TO PIECE ON

MARK 198 - IT WAS VERY COMPLETIVE BACK THEN WRITERS LIKE HYSEN, TRACY -168, COMET, VAMM, BLADE, CHECKER 170, TON 5, PNUT.2, KING 2,  WERE BOMBING EVERYONE WAS STRIVING TO BE RECOGNIZED AND SO MANY OF THE WRITERS WERE TRYING TO TAKE OVER THE LINES... OTHER WRITERS WERE STARTING TO DO CHARACTERS NEW STYLES OF LETTERS WERE COMING OUT, WRITERS WERE DOING UNQUE COLOR TO THEIR PIECES GRAFFITI WAS JUST STARTING TO FORM IT'S STYLES BACK THEN

4) What was the gang scene like when you both were writing and did you both ever have any trouble with those gangs while hitting up? Who were the biggest gangs in your area?

MARK 198 - WE HAD MAJOR GANGS IN THE NORTH BRONX THE GOLDEN GINNIES AND THE BRONX MINISTERS IN THE SOUTH BRONX YOU HAD GANGS LIKE THE BLACK SPADES THE SAVAGE SKULLS. SOMETIMES WE WOULD HAVE TO SNEAK AROUND THE D YARD BECAUSE THE BRONX MINISTERS WOULD HANG OUT RIGHT BY THE D YARD AND THEY HATED GRAFF ALSO THE SAME THING FOR THE 2 YARD BUT THE GOLDEN GINNIES WOULD HANG OUT UP THERE RIGHT BY THE ENTRANCE

5) Could you both tell us about your first experience hit the subways who were you with and where and what was it like?

KIT 17- WE BOTH STARTED MOTION TAGGING THE 3RD AVE EL #8 TRAIN A COUPLE OF MONTHS BEFORE IT WENT OUT OF SERVICE WE LIVED 2 BLOCKS UP FROM WEBSTER AVE WHERE THE 3RD AVE EL RAN IT WAS LIKE A BIG RUSH FOR US WHEN WE STARTED TO SEE OUR TAGS LATER ON  WE HOOKED UP WITH HYSEN AND STARTED BOMBING THE D YARD AND KILLING THE BX BUSES

6) The MG Crew was a dominate group on the 4 line, When & how did the group begin and Who where the original members of the group.

MARK 198 - THE GROUP STARTED IN  THE LATE SUMMER OF 1973  WITH A COUPLE OF NEIGHBORHOOD KIDS WHO HUNG OUT ON 198 ST, THE ORIGINAL MEMBERS FROM 198 ST WERE HYSEN, ...MARK198,... KIT 17,...ISE, ... FLIP 13 AND CB 13 THE WRITERS THAT WERE DOWN WITH US LATER ON WERE, BILLY 167 (R.I.P),.. NINE (R.I.P),.. MS 161 (R.I.P),.. LEED 3 ... HATE 168,.... DEAN (BYB) (R.I.P), ,... MG ONE aka CHICAGO aka SPIRIT,...  PLOT 1,...  PLOT 162,....  BOOTS 119,...  VICTOR 161,..  SIMON 007,..  LIE 1, .. CUDA 181...

NIC 707,... CB 13, RICE 5, .. BONES, .. P.BODY 170,.. BOX 5.. RAT 1,..... FUZZ ONE ,.. MITCH 77,..... NOC 167,.. BAN 2 aka DELI 167,.. RUSS 75,.. RUST 1,..  DEE 3,.. DON 1,.. TRUCK 204,.. OPE 204,.. SPIKE 204... SIRT 204,.. PEANUT 204 ( R.I.P),..

TC 3,.. MIL 5,..  BO 007,.. ANTHONY 101,..  KT 3, ..  POT,.. THEN WE HAD THESE GUYS WHO WERE BUS BOMBERS.... FIT,.. FIG,.. FIX  AND SO MANY OTHERS WE JUST CAN'T REMEMBER SORRY IF WE MISSED YOU. MR FREEZE FROM THE ROCK STEADY CREW WAS FROM MOSHULA PKWY AND WE KNEW HIM WELL HE WROTE "MARK 198 jr ", THERE'S A LITTLE HISTORY  NOT  TO MANY PEOPLE KNOW.

KIT 17 ;  BILLY 167 - R.I.P, WAS A MEMBER OF OUR GROUP, WHICH ALLOT OF PEOPLE SEEM TO HAVE FORGOTTEN. BILLY WAS JUST ONE OF THOSE GUYS WHO HAD RAW TALENT HIS LETTERING WAS AWESOME  HE WAS A TRUE INNOVATOR OF STYLES, I REMEMBER BEING UP HIS HOUSE DOING BLACK BOOK PIECES HE WOULD JUST COME UP WITH THESE STYLES FROM HIS HEAD JUST CREATING THEM AS HE WAS SKETCHING, HE WOULD HANG OUT WITH US WE USE TO MEET UP WITH HIM AT THE BURGER KING ON WHITE PLAINS ROAD RIGHT OFF OF PELHAM PARKWAY AND WE WOULD ALL JUST

START DOING OUT LINES ON NAPKINS THERE WOULD SOMETIMES BE 10 GUYS COMPETING ON NAPKINS HE WAS PART OF OUR CREW AND HE ALSO WAS WITH NUMEROUS OTHER CREWS AT THE TIME. BILLY DID PIECES WITH SO MANY OTHER BIG WRITERS THROUGH OUT THE 1970's. WE HAVE TO SAY BILLY 167 IS A STYLE MASTER AND A INNOVATOR OF STYLES. THE WRITERS OF THE PAST AND OF TODAY DEFINITELY HAVE SOME BILLY STYLE IN THERE WORK. BILLY 167 YOU MADE YOUR MARK IN GRAFFITI IN A BIG WAY - REST IN PEACE

7) Could you tell us about any of the places the M.G Boys use to hang out? Would you have any experiences while being there that you could share with us?  KIT 17- WE WOULD ALL CUT SCHOOL AND MEET UP AT THE MCDONALDS ON 204ST AND PERRY AVE RIGHT DOWN THE BLOCK FROM J.H.S 80 THAT WAS OUR HANGOUT SPOT, SOMETIMES UP TO 25 OF US WERE THERE WE  USE TO PRACTICE OUR OUTLINES ON NAPKINS.  BY 10 AM WERE OUT READY TO GO RACKING, THEN BOMB THE TRAINS LATER ON THAT EVENING. WE USE TO HUNG OUT ON MOSHOLU PARKWAY LATER ON IN 1976 AT A PLACE CALLED THE RAIL THERE WE WOULD WATCH OUR PIECES GO BY ON THE 4 LINE WITH NUMEROUS WRITERS FROM THE 4 LINE IT BECAME A FAMOUS PLACE TO WATCH THE TRAINS GO BY ON THE 4 LINE._ ______________________________________________________________________________

8) Getting paint or racking paint was a fine art, not many writers could rack up paint which caused allot of writers to quit . Could you tell about some of your racking adventures and who were some of the best Rackers in your group and why? KIT. 17 -WE WOULD RACK UP PAINT ALL OVER THE CITY... BRONX, MANHATTAN, STATEN ISLAND, QUEENS, LONG ISLAND, EVEN NEW JERSEY. WE HAD SOME OF OUR BEST SPOTS IN QUEENS LIKE FOR

EXAMPLE, ON STEINWAY STREET WE WOULD COME OUT OF THERE WITH BAGS OF PAINT. MY FAVORITE SPOT WAS IN MANHATTAN, FROM 86TH AND 3RD AVE TO 42 AND 3RD AVE WE WOULD WALK THAT WHOLE STRIP THEN WORK OUR WAY BACK UP 2ND AVE TO 86TH ,IF WE DIDN'T HAVE ENOUGH PAINT ,WE WOULD CATCH ALL THE WOOLWORTHS M.H LAMPSTONS C.H MARTINS AND ALL THE SMALL MOM AND POP HARDWARE STORES ALL A LONG THE WAY. ONE DAY WE WENT WENT RACKING WITH BEAR 167 R.I.P AND BOO 2 WE LOADED UP IN THIS WOOLWORTHS THE STORE MANGER MUST HAVE SPOTTED US RACKING WHEN WE WALKED OUT THE STORE DOWN THE STREET WE SEEN HIM FOLLOWING US THEN HE SEEN A SCOOTER COP AND FLAGGED HIM DOWN AND POINTED US OUT DOWN THE BLOCK WHEN THE COP APPROACHED US IN HIS SCOOTER HE TOLD US TO STOP WE JUST BOLTED DOWN THE BLOCK WITH THE CANS STILL ON US WE HAD TO FLING THEM OUT FROM OUR CLOTHES ALL YOU SEE ARE THESE CANS OF PAINT ALL OVER ROLLING DOWN THE BLOCK AND THE SCOOTER COP CHASING US WE ENDED UP GETTING AWAY THAT DAY BUT WE LOST OUR PAINT AND THE PAINT FROM OUR PRIOR RACKING OF THE DAY WAS STASHED IN THE GARBAGE CAN BY THE WOOLWORTHS WE

GOT CHASED FROM WE DIDN'T WANNA GO BACK TO GET IT BECAUSE WE MIGHT GET SPOTTED BY  THE SCOOTER COP, BUT IT WASN'T A

TOTAL LOSS WE RACKED UP IN THE BRONX , LATER ON THAT NIGHT WE CAME OFF WITH NICE PEICES WE ENDED UP GOING TO THE 4 YARD WITH BEAR 176 R.I.P, NOC 167, BOOTS 119, AND CUDA, NOC AND BOOTS DID A 2 MAN CLOUD KIT 17 AND BEAR 167 DID A 2 MAN CLOUD AND MARK 198 AND CUDA 181 DID A 2 MAN CLOUD WITCH MADE THE FRONT COVER OF THE BOOK GETTING UP. OVERALL IT WAS PRETTY MUCH A SUCCESSFUL DAY. AS FAR AS OUR BEST RACKER'S OF THE CREW I WOULD SAY HYSEN AND FUZZ ONE HANDS DOWN HYSEN HAD THIS LONG COAT HE WOULD USE AND JUST FILL IT UP 20 CANS A SHOT HE WOULD SOMTIME'S END UP WITH 50 CANS A DAY. FUZZ ONE GOT OVER CUZ OF HIS SIZE AT THE TIME HE LOOKED LIKE A LITTLE INNOCENT KID NO ONE WOULD THINK HE WOULD RACK FROM THERE STORE BUT LITTLE POPEYE AKA FUZZ ONE WOULD WALK RIGHT OUT OF THE STORE WITH POWER PAINT 20,30 CANS OF PAINT. I REMEMBER HIM GOING UP TO THE GALLERIA A NEW MALL THAT HAD JUST OPENED UP IN WESTCHESTER THIS KID WENT RIGHT INTO THE MACY'S GOT TOGETHER 30 ALBUMS AND JUST WALK OUT WITH THEM IN HIS HAND AS IF NOTHING EVER HAPPENED. SO WE HAVE TO SAY THOSE 2 DUDES WERE OUR BEST RACKERS WITHOUT A DOUBT.

__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

9) In the 70's the competition on the subways was fierce, which coused allot of writers to back ground each other work . Did you both ever have any writing wars or did any of the other  members of the group have any of these same problems?MARK 198-  SURE, WE DID BACK THEN.  THERE WERE NUMEROUS CREWS ON THE IRT'S WE HAD PROBLEMS WITH.  WE HAD A MEETING WITH A COUPLE OF CREWS AND RESOLVED OUR DIFFERENCES AND ENDED UP PUTTING THEM IN OUR CREW.  THEY DID THE SAME BY PUTTING US DOWN WITH THERE CREW.

10) Many forget that KIT and MARK are the two Partners who put the crew on the Map as far being seen on the Subways. You were both kings of the 4 line in the 1970's. Can you tell us what  other lines you both bomb hard and What other subway lines  other members of " M.G " dominated? MARK 198 - THE 2's AND 5's WE BOMBED HARD BUT IN THE BEGINNING WE TORE UP THE D'S. NOT TOO MANY PEOPLE REALIZE THE AMOUNT OF WORK WE DID ON THE D's THEY JUST TALK ABOUT THE 4's AND WHAT WE DID ON THAT LINE.  WE HAD TO LEAVE THE D LINE BECAUSE OUR PIECES WERE GETTING BUFFED TOO FAST, BUT LATER ON WHEN WE GOT THE 4's WE WENT BACK TO THE D'S EVERY NOW AND THEN TO LET THE WRITERS KNOW WE WERE STILL ON THAT LINE.  WE ALSO HIT THE 6's 3's 1's CC's RR's E's F's AND A'S.

___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

KIT 17 - WE ALSO BOMBED BUSES PRETTY HARD IN THE BRONX. WE WOULD CUT OUT OF SCHOOL AND HANG OUT ON 204 ST THERE WOULD BE 20 OF US OR BETTER WE HAD A NICE BUS SPOT TO HIT ON 205 ST AND BAINBRIDGE IT WAS THE LAST STOP FOR 3 DIFFERENT LINES OF BUSES WHEN THEY WERE PARKED WE WOULD JUST KILL THEM ALL THE DRIVERS KNEW US, TO CATCH THE INSIDES WE WOULD GO MOTION TAGGING ON THE BUSES THE BUS DRIVERS WOULDN'T STOP AT THE BUS STOP FOR US IF THEY SEEN US SO WE HAD TO HIDE AND WAIT FOR THE BUS TO ARRIVE THEN WE WOULD SNEAK IN THE BACK DOOR AND JUST KILL THE INSIDES WE HAD QUITE A FEW FIGHTS  WITH THE DRIVERS BACK THEN THEY HATED US AND WERE REALLY OUT TO GET US. SOME OF OUR MOST EFFECTIVE BUS BOMBERS WERE FIT, FIG, FIX WHO WERE FROM YONKERS, TRUCK 204 SPIKE 204 WERE COMING OFF THE 3RD EL AND STARTED HITTING THE BUSES ALSO. HYSEN, ISE ,FLIP 13 MARK 198 KIT 17 AND DEE3 WERE KILLING ALL THE BUSES. THE BUS LINES WE WERE BOMBING WERE THE BX1,BX2,BX4,BX12,BX17,BX20,BX21

11) Who where the biggest Graffiti Cops on the subways in your era and could you tell us some of the run in's you had with them?

KIT 17-  ATRIE AND HIS CREW WEBSTER, SWARTZ AND O'LEARY. WEBSTER WOULD BE THE ONE TO CHASE US DOWN HE EVEN CHASED US WHEN WE GOT ON TOP OF THE TRAIN HE WOULD BE RIGHT ON US BUT NEVER CAUGHT US, THEN LATER ON WE HAD HICKEY AND SKI THEY USED SMART TACTICS ON US THEY WOULD CHASE US FROM THE YARD AND GET US THE NEXT DAY OR HOWEVER LONG IT TOOK THEM THEY WOULD HANG IN OUT NEIGHBORHOOD AND JUST WAIT EVEN IF IT TOOK A COUPLE WEEKS WHICH IN ONE INCIDENT IT DID THEY WEREN'T REALLY INTO RUNNING AFTER US THEY JUST WOULD WAIT AROUND FOR US TO COME IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD.

___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

12) There were allot of legendry stories about you guys knocking out cops and tossing them out the way while getting raided? Could tell us a little about it?

MARK 198 - WE HAD EACH OTHER'S BACK IN THE YARD WITH NUMEROUS RAIDS... WE WERE IN SO MANY, THE COPS WANTED US REAL BAD BACK THEN AND WOULD COME AGGRESSIVE! WE DID WHAT WE DID TO GET OUT OF THERE WHEN YOU GET IN A RAID YOUR ADRENALINE GETS GOING AND SOMETIMES YOU DO THINGS WITHOUT THINKING ABOUT THE CONSEQUENCES. YEAH, SOME OF THOSE COPS WERE SURPRISED AT OUR TACTICS BUT WE WERE BIG KIDS FOR OUR AGE AND COULD HANDLE OURSELVES EVEN WITH GROWN MEN IF WE HAD TO THROW DOWN WE WERE ABLE TO HANDLE OURSELVES

13) Who was your competition on the 4-line? You had groups like TCA, SALSA ... WASP 1 that got up hard on the 4's, which are some of the names you both remember being very strong on that line?

MARK 198 - WOW THERE WERE PLENTY OF WRITERS BACK THEN BOMBING THE 4'S BEAR 167 -RIP BILLY 167 -RIP, PADRE 2 -RIP ( THOSE WERE SOME COOL CATS REST IN PEACE BROTHERS ) THEN WE HAD TRACY 168,...  MITCH 77 WAS BOMBING AT THE TIME,...  KIT 17 -  THERE WERE SO MANY WRITERS PIECING UP THE 4'S, THE COMPETITION  WAS FIERCE. 15) There have been allot of writers that didn't pay there dues in the writing world that have received allot of attention for there art and guys like you are unmentioned, What are you feelings on that?

MARK 198 - THAT'S ONE OF THE REASONS WE CAME BACK INTO THE GRAFF SCENE AFTER 27 YEARS TO LET THE YOUNGER GENERATION KNOW OUR HISTORY, PLUS WE ARE IN A FEW BOOKS AND OTHER BOOKS THAT WILL BE OUT IN THE FUTURE .WE DID A LOT OF NICE CARS ON THE 4'S 2'S 5'S AND 1'S 2TB'S PANELS AND WE GOT THOSE LINES PRETTY HARD WE WERE IN A GOOD FLOW FOR A COUPLE YEARS, ALSO THE OLD SCHOOL CATS ARE STILL OUT THERE THEY KNOW WHAT WE DID BACK THEN HOPEFULLY WE WILL GET OUR OWN BOOK OUT TO SET THE RECORD STRAIGHT. HOW WE FEEL ABOUT IT OUR HISTORY IS OUT THERE AND WE PLAN TO PAINT AGAIN AND DO SOME CANVASES WHICH WILL MAKE UP FOR TIME LOST.

MITCH 77 ALSO KILLED THE 4 LINE WITH HIS BOMBING AND HIS STYLE, ... SET 149 WHO KING THE INSIDES OF THE 4'S.
